Bleach (Nirvana)

Nirvana's 1989 debut album, recorded cheaply with Jack Endino at Reciprocal Recording and released on Sub Pop. Heavier and murkier than the band's later work, it captured them as a product of the local underground rather than a mainstream act. "Bleach" built the regional following that the major-label breakthrough of 1991 would dramatically expand.

Jack Endino engineered Nirvana's "Bleach" at Reciprocal Recording, capturing the band cheaply and quickly in the studio that defined the early Sub Pop sound. His fast, unpolished approach preserved the rawness that gave the record its underground character. The collaboration is a clear instance of how one producer shaped the genre's first sonic signature.
