Gal Costa
A Salvador native, Gal Costa was the voice of the Bahian group, capable of crystalline restraint and, on the Tropicalist records, of feral electric abandon. She lent her instrument to the collective manifesto album of 1968 and remained one of the movement's most enduring interpreters. Her early phrasing helped define how Tropicália would actually sound to a listener.
