Soundgarden's third album, released in the autumn of 1991 as the Seattle scene reached its commercial peak. Heavier and more rhythmically complex than its chart-mates, it confirmed the band's standing as the scene's metal-fluent heavyweights. Arriving within weeks of "Nevermind," it shared in the wave that made the Seattle sound briefly inescapable.
