"Great Balls of Fire"

Written by Otis Blackwell and Jack Hammer and recorded by Jerry Lee Lewis for Sun in 1957, 'Great Balls of Fire' is a furious showcase for his hammering piano. The performance, all glissandos and shouted lines, helped make the piano a lead voice in rock 'n' roll. It became one of the best-selling singles of the decade and a defining Memphis record. Its energy captured the genre at its most uninhibited.
