"Blue Suede Shoes" / "Honey, Don't!" (1956 single)

Released on Sun in early 1956, Carl Perkins's single paired 'Blue Suede Shoes' with his own 'Honey, Don't!' and became the label's first nationwide million-seller. Its success put Sun rockabilly on the pop charts and made Perkins briefly a star to rival Elvis Presley. A serious car accident soon afterward kept him from capitalizing on the breakthrough on national television. The record nonetheless proved the Memphis sound could sell across every audience.
