Roy Ayers

Roy Ayers, the American vibraphonist and jazz-funk pioneer, was by widely-documented account drawn into Fela Kuti's orbit, touring Nigeria and recording with him at the end of the 1970s. His vibraphone-led groove music shared deep roots with afrobeat in funk and jazz. The connection placed afrobeat within a wider Black Atlantic conversation between Lagos and the United States.
