Lekan Animashaun

Lekan Animashaun was the long-serving baritone saxophonist and bandleader of Fela Kuti's groups, one of the most durable figures in the afrobeat horn section. A Nigerian musician born in 1936, he held the ensemble's reeds together across the Africa 70 years and beyond. His low baritone lines were part of the dense brass architecture that gave the records their heft.
