Composed by Derrick May under his Rhythim Is Rhythim alias, "Strings of Life" is the emotional touchstone of Detroit techno. Built around cascading piano stabs and surging orchestral strings with no conventional vocal, it became an anthem on dancefloors in Detroit, Chicago and across Europe. Its surname-grand title belies a track assembled entirely from sampled fragments and a drum machine.
