Founding of Metroplex Records
In 1985 Juan Atkins founded Metroplex, the first label dedicated to the Detroit sound, and gave techno its initial catalogue and distribution. Metroplex issued early records by Atkins's own Model 500 and by friends such as Eddie Fowlkes. Its existence turned a loose circle of producers into a documented movement.
