The Warehouse
The Warehouse was the Chicago club where Frankie Knuckles held residency from the late 1970s, blending disco, soul and reworked edits into long, sustained sets. Its predominantly Black and gay crowd is widely credited as the cradle of the sound, and the venue's name is often said to be the source of the word "house." The club's culture set the template for what house music would become.
