Dr. Motte

A West Berlin DJ and artist, Dr. Motte conceived the Love Parade in 1989 and gave the city's emerging techno scene its loudest public face. He framed the parade as a peaceful demonstration set to a four-on-the-floor pulse, a gesture that grew into one of the largest electronic-music gatherings in the world. As a resident of early Berlin clubs, he helped knit the underground into a movement.
