Founding of Basic Channel

In 1993 Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus launched Basic Channel as both a project and a Berlin label, beginning a run of near-anonymous twelve-inch records. The enterprise grew out of their Hard Wax shop and its traffic in Detroit and Jamaican sounds. Its founding marked the birth of the deep, dub-shaded school that would carry Berlin's name worldwide.
